Men’s basketball were dealt a tough loss by the Regina Cougars on Saturday night. After trailing close behind Regina for three quarters of the game, the Thunderbirds managed to tie the score before falling 83-79.

UBC will be hosting an NBA skills competition Saturday at the Student Rec Centre. The event will have a skills competition, a three-point shootout and a slam-dunk contest. The winner could win a trip to the NBA All-Star Game in Toronto.

The Bobcats, despite a woeful 6-9 conference record and being 10 points behind the ’Birds, defeated UBC 1-3 on Friday and 0-3 on Saturday. On Friday night, the Thunderbirds lost in four sets with set scores at 25-16, 15-25, 25-27 and 22-25.

The UBC men’s basketball team started strong in 2016, sweeping the Lethbridge Pronghorns 95-73 Friday and 85-79 on Saturday. After making adjustments over the holiday break, Hanson’s squad have now improved their Canada West conference record to 8-2.
