2015 was a big year for sports and recreation at UBC. From varsity athletes to video games and rec team names, there was plenty of drama, blood, sweat and tears this past year. Here are our 15 defining sports moments of the year.

While you were binge watching all the Netflix you had to catch up with after finals and eating piles of holiday cookies, some of the UBC Thunderbirds were keeping busy. Men's basketball and volleyball hit the road, competing in a combined four games.

UBC men's volleyball team beat MacEwan Griffins, 3-0 and 3-1, this past weekend to boost their winning streak to four games.
The facility, which is slated to cost about $32.5 million, will include two turf fields and three grass fields on campus, which will serve as a home for both Whitecaps and UBC soccer teams.
Women’s volleyball team took on the McEwan University Griffins this weekend on Friday and Saturday, beating them in both games to maintain their position in the Canada West conference and tying at second with sister school UBC Okanagan.
The women’s hockey team split their weekend against the Calgary Dinos. The Thunderbirds took the first game with a score of 3-2 on Friday and fell to the same team in a double overtime 4-3.
The Thunderbirds’ cross country team competed at the NAIA national championships November 21 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
UBC swimming captures Canada West titles
UBC upsets defending champions, the University of Montreal, with a last second field goal from Quinn Van Gylswyk to win their first Vanier Cup since 1997, 26-23.
After last week’s win against the St. FX X-Men in the Uteck Bowl, the only barrier that remains in UBC football’s way to winning their first Vanier Cup since 1997 is the Montreal Carabins —the defending national champions.
