After the sports reviews two years ago resulted in teams being stripped of their varsity level status, UBC Athletics and Recreation have collaborated with nine clubs to form an alternative competitive stream for AMS-recognized sports clubs. The stream will allow the clubs to compete under the UBC Thunderbird name in competitive, non-varsity leagues. The new student-run teams will be able to compete for UBC in sports that are not available as varsity sports at the university.

The new location, which will play host to the 2016 CIS Final Eight this spring, was assembled just for this weekend’s UBC Invitational. To christen the new hardwood, the T-birds faced off against the University of Guelph Gryphons.

August 27, 2015: it’s 8pm in Enschede, Holland, and Alana Westerhof walks through the rain, across the Tex-Town Tigers’ home-field. She walks up to the pitcher’s mound, which is soaked, and has the consistency of soup. She stands in the middle of it trying to wipe down the ball with her jersey. Once the ball is dry, or as dry as it’s going to be, she shifts her focus towards home plate.
The UBC men’s Rugby home-opener drew a large crowd this past Saturday, as the men faced off against Capilano RFC. The game was anything but disappointing as the Thunderbirds dominated the scoreboard with a 43-24 win.
UBC women’s rugby took the field this past Friday afternoon to host the Calgary Dinos. Coming out with a strong start, UBC fell short to the Dino’s dominating scrum, recording a loss for their season home-opener.
While 2,000 odd people were watching the UBC Thunderbirds face off against the University of Saskatchewan Huskies in a football game, men's volleyball took on Mount Royal University at War Memorial Gym.

It may be time to hold off on the parade planning for the UBC Thunderbirds. After a flying start to the year that saw them beat the powerful Laval in the preseason and open up the regular season 2-1, the sixth ranked ‘Birds were dealt a sobering 45-29 defeat at the hand of the visiting Saskatchewan Huskies.
