Despite the best efforts of their Eastern rivals, it would be UBC who finished on top with 1,151.5 points on the men’s side and a whopping 1,362.5 points on the women’s side.
With the men’s volleyball team kicked off the weekend with a two-game sweep over the Manitoba Bisons, the women closed out the volleyball weekend domination with a sweep of their own over the Regina Cougars.
The Thunderbird’s hockey program was seeing double this year as both teams ended their seasons early after two tough weekends of playoff games.
"We get the luxury now of sitting back and watching tomorrow and potentially the next day and seeing who we end up getting, and we'll start preparing for them at that point.”
In the end, it all came down to two differences to split the hairs: two sunk free throws for the Dinos and a missed three-pointer for UBC.
“Having had that first half of that match out of our system, [I hope] that we sort of get after it a little bit earlier and a little bit more consistently.”
“It’s good to get a win after last time we played them [and] we lost. It just brings our confidence up against this team."
After dropping both regular season match ups between the teams, the Thunderbirds had their work cut out for them as they faced a conference heavyweight.
UBC is the top contender, though the Varsity Blues will try to make use of their home pool advantage and stop the Thunderbirds from retaining their national titles.
