UBC Athletics' 94th Big Block Awards were held Tuesday night, celebrating the best varsity athletes, coaches and trainers. The list of winners is as follows:
'Bus' Phillips Memorial Trophy (Male Athlete of the Year)
Winners: Coleman Allen (swimming), Conor Lillis-White (baseball)
Marilyn Pomfret Trophy (Female Athlete of the Year)
Winner: Maria Bernard (track and field, cross country)
Du Vivier Team of the Year Award
Winners: Women's cross country, men's swimming
Bobby Gaul Memorial Trophy (Graduating Male Athlete of the Year)
Winner: Luc Bruchet (track and field, cross country)
May Brown Trophy (Graduating Female Athlete of the Year)
Winners: Savannah King (swimming), Kris Young (basketball)
Rookies of the Year (male and female)
Winners: Marcus Davis (football), Lauren Logush (hockey)
Thunderbird Athletes Council Performance Award (Most impressive single performance)
Winner: Coleman Allen (swimming)
Arthur W. Delamont Award (School spirit)
Winner: Steve Tuckwood (Director, Development and Alumni Engagements for Athletics)
Carolyn Dobie-Smith Award (trainer)
Winners: Nathan Wong (men's hockey) Beth Rizzardo (men's basketball)
Kay Brearley Service Award (service to women's athletics)
Winner: Jennifer Schutz (women's cross country, track and field assistant coach)
Thunderbird Athletes Council Buzz Moore Leadership Award
Winners: Ian Perry (men's volleyball), Colleen Nesbitt (swimming)
Hall of Fame Inductees, Team Category
UBC swimming's 'Decade of Dominance' squads, winners of 10 consecutive men's and women's CIS championships from 1998-2007
Coaches Marek Jedrzejek (cross country, track and field) and Spence McTavish (formerly men's rugby) both received plaques for their dedication.
