The Ubyssey is currently looking to hire a new web developer for the summer! Over the past several years, our paper's digital platform has grown from a small WordPress site into a custom framework, built by a team of student developers with a passion for journalism. As web developer, you'll be in charge of not only maintaining our website, but also continuing to experiment with new technologies and explore the future of digital publishing.
Position Title: Web Developer
Location: Vancouver, BC (UBC)
Duration: May 2019 ~ Aug 2019 (extension possible), 40 hrs/week
Note: this is a paid position.
Requirements: Must be a UBC student
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and develop new features for ubyssey.ca (GitHub)
- Work on improvements and bug fixes for Dispatch (GitHub), the custom publishing platform that powers our website
- Improve our documentation (code.ubyssey.ca)
- Work on new projects (microsites, apps)
- Collaborate with and support volunteer web developers
- Respond to incidents (server errors, downtime, etc)
Qualifications
- Experience with full-stack web development
- Knowledge of Python, JavaScript, HTML & CSS, MySQL
- Familiar with Django (Python) and React (JavaScript)
- Understanding of common software design principles and best practices
