AMS Decoded: What to look for in the November 23 Council meeting

Every few weeks, your elected student government meets on a Wednesday night to talk about issues concerning the AMS. Agenda items can seem long, mysterious and confusing without the proper background, making it difficult to see how these issues affect students. Here’s what to watch out for in the upcoming AMS Council meeting on November 23, 2016.

Presentations

Council will start off its meeting with two presentations. The first will be on the potential new incubator service at the AMS and will be accompanied by a feasibility report. There will also be a presentation on the Board of Governors from Veronica Knott, one of the Vancouver student representatives on the board.

Student Life and Sustainability Centre

Two motions are coming to Council from the executive committee to provide additional funding to the Student Life and Sustainability Centre (SLSC). The first motion is to allocate $15,000 from the SUB Management Fund to the SLSC and the second is for an additional $5,600 from the SUB Renewal and Replacements Fund.

Discussion period

Three items are slotted for discussion on Wednesday — the recent AUS budgetary concerns, the newly implemented committee structure and demonstrations on campus. Discussion period is a great time for students at large to have their voices heard by AMS Council and help give guidance to the AMS.
