The Ubyssey won four national student press awards

At the McMaster Silhouette-hosted national student journalism conference, NASH 87: Persevere, The Ubyssey took home four awards including the very first community service reporting award.

The Ubyssey was shortlisted for five John H. McDonald Awards for Excellence in Student Journalism, winning four this weekend at the Canadian University Press’ national student journalism conference.

The conference, NASH 87: Persevere, was hosted in Hamilton, Ontario by McMaster University’s The Silhouette.

New for 2025 is the Community Service Reporting Award which aims to recognize public interest works that had an impact on a newspaper’s community. The Ubyssey won this year's award alongside the University of Toronto's The Varsity.

We’re very grateful to the Canadian University Press for this recognition — read the winning pieces below.
