Two separate power outages caused by trees falling on power lines impacted parts of UBC’s campus this morning.
In a tweet posted at 7:31 a.m., BC Hydro said the outages, which began just before 6 a.m., were impacting 5,000 customers. Crews were sent out to campus this morning.
The larger of the two outages — located east of West Mall, north of Marine Drive, west of Crown Street and south of Chancellor Boulevard — was resolved at 9:30 a.m. This outage impacted over 3,700 BC Hydro customers. The smaller one, impacting just over 1,300 people, is still being resolved.
The outage has also caused a detour of the 44 and 84 bus routes, according to a tweet from Translink around 7 a.m.

This morning, Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement for Metro Vancouver, warning of strong winds up to 50-70 km/h throughout the day.
One student tweeted BC Hydro, “Do I go to class or not bruh.” BC Hydro’s Twitter account referred the student to its website for updates.
