VP Admin hopeful penalized for placing poster atop another candidate's materials

VP Administration candidate Andrea M. Hurtado Fuentes was placed in the penalty box on March 12 for ‘double postering’ and placing her campaign material directly on top of another candidate’s.

The infraction includes placing campaign material more than once in the same location. The penalty comes after her campaign had been given a warning for committing the same infraction on March 1.

Additionally, Fuentes’ poster was discovered directly on top of another candidate’s following an anonymous complaint to the AMS elections committe. Election rules state candidates must not “deface, remove, or cover up, or cause it to be defaced, removed or covered up, any other candidate’s poster or AMS Elections poster.”

Fuentes said she checked her posters in the Nest on Friday night and they seemed to be according to campaign rules.

She said she would not have intentionally covered up another candidate’s materials.

“I just want to clarify that I value honesty and communication [and] transparency and those are the core platforms I’m running this platform on,” she said.

“... interfering with someone else’s campaign is not something I would willingly do, nor would I direct my volunteers to do either.”

She further clarified that she wasn’t sure which candidate’s posters were covered, but apologizes to them.

Fuentes has been placed on a 24-hour campaign suspension as of March 12 at 6:30 p.m. and will not be allowed to campaign until March 13 at 6:30 p.m.
