Virtuous Pie at UBC closes indefinitely after second employee tests positive for COVID-19

Virtuous Pie in Wesbrook Village has closed again on Sunday after a second employee tested positive for COVID-19.

On Thursday, November 12, a Virtuous Pie announced that an employee who last worked on Sunday, November 8 had tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the restaurant to close for a “deep clean.” With advice from public health authorities, the restaurant reopened for service midday on Saturday, but closed again on Sunday, November 15 after the second employee tested positive.

Virtuous Pie directed a request for comment to its Instagram post.

The restaurant wrote in an Instagram post that neither of the employees who tested positive were in close contact with members of the public.

“However, as one can imagine — even with all health & safety protocols in place, this is difficult news for our small team to hear. As such, we have made the decision to close our UBC location for an indefinite time as we assess our next steps,” the Instagram post said.

Virtuous Pie clarified that the decision to close was its own, and it was not ordered to do so by public health officials.

“We are working with all team members to ensure they have access to mental health resources, and we are thankful for the well wishes for our affected employees.”
