Around a dozen individuals were seen gathering in the Greek village in violation of public health COVID-19 guidelines this week.
In a video posted to Reddit on Friday, March 26, the group can be seen gathered around a beer pong table in the courtyard with music blasting.
Frats acting responsibly.. as usual from r/UBC
The video comes as the province saw 908 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, with many of the new cases among those under 40.
Interfraternity Council (IFC) President Tommi Redl said that the students in the video are all from the same household and were on their own property. He also clarified that no people from outside the household were involved in the gathering.
Redl told The Ubyssey on March 10 that there were currently no active cases of COVID-19 in the Greek village, but that there had been a few cases right after reading break.
A call taker at the University RCMP confirmed that officers received reports of a gathering but a spokesperson was not immediately available.
In September, UBC confirmed that it had a partnership with the IFC and was providing masks, temperature guns and hand sanitizer to the organization. Spokesperson Matthew Ramsey also said that Campus Security monitors all of campus and informs the RCMP if they see matters of concern.
UBC and Vancouver Coastal Health have recently confirmed COVID-19 cases in first-year residence and at UBC Hospital.
