Student assaulted and robbed while jogging in Pacific Spirit Park: RCMP

A student was assaulted and robbed while on a run in Pacific Spirit Park yesterday, according to University RCMP.

The student was jogging along Lily of the Valley Trail on Wednesday around noon when an unknown man struck her and fled with her phone.

Police described the assailant as a six-foot Caucasian man in his mid-to-late 30s with a burly build and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark toque, a green jacket, black pants and black sport sunglasses during the incident.

The assaulted student was treated for non-life threatening injuries at a hospital and was released later the same day.

“If you are jogging or walking with ear buds, keep the music volume low [and] if possible, exercise in pairs or in populated areas,” said Constable Christina Martin in a news release. “Also, let someone know your route and when you’re going (or share your GPS) and be aware of noises and of others around you.”

RCMP asks anyone with information about the incident to phone the university detachment at 604.224.1322.
