University RCMP extends call for information about UBC student’s disappearance in 1988

Nearly 30 years after the unsolved disappearance of a UBC student, University RCMP is extending its call for information from community members.

Emerson Dobroskay, a then-21-year-old meteorology graduate student from Saskatoon, disappeared in the early morning of October 28, 1988.

The evening before, he had been at the Pit Pub with his friends Dave, Jim and Mark. Dobroskay separated from the group and left the venue at 1 a.m.

After failing to return to his dorm in Totem Park residence, University RCMP conducted a vast search of the area with a dog team and even a helicopter survey of the area. The RCMP also received tips from across the country and abroad, but they were never able to locate Dobroskay.

At the time of his disappearance, he wore a brown pull-over sweater, a blue shirt, dark pants and dark suede shoes. He was then 5’7, 125 lbs with blue eyes and light brown curly hair.

Dobroskay would be 51 years old as of today’s date.

In 1991, Dobroskay’s family announced a $10,000 award for his safe return or information leading to it, but did not receive any tips, according to a Ubyssey article published on October 1, 1993.

If you have any information which could aid in the investigation into Emerson’s disappearance, you are asked to contact University RCMP at 604-224-1322. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8427 or visit their website.
