Miranda Lam was appointed the next Board of Governors (BoG) chair for a term beginning on August 1.
Lam has served on BoG since February 2022 and has been the board’s vice chair since June 2023. She has previously chaired the boards of the Vancouver Foundation, alumni UBC and Vantage Point, and served on the boards of United Way and Imagine Canada.
Lam is taking over the role from previous chair Nancy McKenzie, whose term concluded in 2023, and interim chair William Sundhu.
In a 2022 interview with The Ubyssey, Lam, who is a UBC law alum, said communication is integral to success within governance structures.
“Organizations get into trouble when they aren’t talking to each other,” Lam said.
“I can bring that … ability to ask questions without it being a cross examination, and engendering trust with my board colleagues, so we can have those open and honest conversations,” said Lam in 2022.
Lam’s first BoG meeting as chair will be in September.
