Early this morning, a man survived after falling 30 metres down a cliff near Wreck Beach. His name and age have not been released, and it has not been confirmed whether he is a UBC student.
According to CBC, the man “suffered serious injuries, but is expected to recover.”
Before the fall, he was walking down an unspecified trail around midnight with his friends, who then called 911 when they could not see or hear him after a certain point.
The man was located by the Vancouver Fire technical rescue team before being transported to the Spanish Banks by a Coast Guard hovercraft. He was later taken to hospital by paramedics.
This is not the first time an accident has happened on the trails to Wreck Beach. In 2015, a UBC student also fell 30 metres off a cliff in the area, but sustained no serious injuries.
