Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will reopen with new COVID-19 rules for students, faculty and staff on September 8, UBC announced yesterday.
UBC libraries have been closed for nearly half a year since March 20 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Faculty, staff and students can place bookings online at least 24 hours in advance for study spaces with access to a desktop computer and printing and scanning services. Visitors can make up to two bookings a week.
UBC Library said that the space will be “organized to ensure safe physical distancing at all times.”
The university won’t mandate mask usage this fall, but UBC Library encouraged visitors to wear face masks in its announcement.
IKB will be open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
Other UBC Library locations will remain closed.
This article has been updated to reflect that only university faculty, staff and students can place bookings, not all community members.
