Presidential and senator-at-large candidate Chris Hakim has been for penalized for using his power as a current executive to access private email addresses on Clubhouse during his campaign.
According to Elections Administrator Halla Bertrand, the AMS Elections Committee noticed private email addressed being reached through Clubhouse yesterday after receiving a complaint from a club executive. When the committee members tried to access these email addresses through their personal Clubhouse accounts, they were not visible.
As the current AMS VP Administration, Hakim has administrator access to the platform.
“It was an honest mistake and I am very sorry for that,” he wrote in a message to The Ubyssey.
“I have worked hard to ensure that I didn’t use any information that would be related to my role as the VP Administration, and I slipped in this instance.”
The committee has suspended all of Hakim’s campaign privileges between February 28 at 2 p.m. and March 1 at 2 p.m.
“I am happy to accept the 24 hours to make amends for this error, because I believe that separating my role as the VP Administration and my campaign is important,” he wrote.
This article has been updated to clarify Bertrand’s position.
