NDP candidate David Eby has taken Vancouver-Point Grey for a third term, beating out Green candidate Devyani Singh and BC Liberal candidate Mark Bowen.
CBC and CTV have called Vancouver-Point Grey for Eby, with 90 of 91 polls reporting.
Eby, the attorney general since 2017, ran on a platform of affordable housing, strengthening student voices, childcare and anti-money laundering.
Eby has received 6,201 votes so far, edging out Bowen by 1,773 votes as of publishing. Singh has received 2,347 votes, or 18 per cent of the vote share.
With a 14 percentage point lead over Bowen, Eby said he was ready to represent all his constituents in Victoria.
“I’m always conscious of the fact that one out of two people did not vote for me,” he said in an interview. “My approach is always to be as welcoming to people as we possibly can be, because my job is to represent all the constituents and their interactions with the provincial government.”
Asked what the first thing he would do back in the office, he said he would continue to support British Columbians during the recovery from COVID-19.
Elections BC expects final results will be available as long as two weeks from now due to the large number of mail-in ballots.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
