COVID-19 outbreak declared at UBC Hospital after three positive tests

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) imposed restrictions at UBC Hospital on Thursday after three patients tested positive for COVID-19.

The patients are at the Complex Activation Medical Unit, where new admissions and transfers have been halted and visits to the units have been suspended until the hospital lifts outbreak protocols — save end-of-life visits.

Vancouver Coastal Health told the Vancouver Sun that UBC Hospital staff are contact-tracing, monitoring patients and have introduced more cleaning protocols.

UBC Hospital remains open for those who need urgent care. VCH urged individuals not to delay seeking care.

This outbreak follows potential COVID-19 exposures in Orchard Commons and Totem Park. The university and Vancouver Coastal Health have not confirmed any cases in residence.
