COVID-19 at UBC: Two daily cases per 100,000 residents seen in the last week

UBC is currently seeing two new cases per 100,000 residents daily, as per new British Columbia Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) data.

This is a slight, but not significant, increase from last week’s daily rate of less than one case per 100,000 residents. UBC is also seeing a one per cent positivity rate based on all tests conducted, another slight increase from last week, according to the BCCDC.

Residents 12+ have a 97 per cent first dose vaccination rate. Ninety-four per cent of residents have received their second dose.

This data is based on COVID-19 information for those who live west of Blanca and does not include commuter students.

Yesterday, BC recorded 406 new cases of COVID-19 and five new deaths. Forty-one of those cases occurred in the Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) region. VCH currently has 607 active cases of COVID-19. Of the deaths, four occurred in the Northern Health region and one occurred in the Interior Health region.

Vaccination continues to play a strong role in COVID-19 outcomes in BC. In the last week, 58.9 per cent of the news cases occurred in unvaccinated people. 5.5 per cent of those cases were partially vaccinated and 35.6 per cent were fully vaccinated.
