AMS presidential candidate receives second penalty

Stuart Clarke, an AMS presidential and senator-at-large hopeful, has been placed in the penalty box again.

According to AMS Elections Committee, Clarke is penalized for using campaigning material that had not yet been approved by the committee.

In a written statement to The Ubyssey, he said he had emailed the Elections Committee yesterday about approval for his materials but did not receive a response until today, which includes a notification of his violation.

“A cover photo (only recently approved) was shared by two of my friends on Facebook, and now I’m paying for that mistake,” Clarke wrote.

Currently, he is banned from campaigning between February 27 at 12 p.m. and February 28 at 12 p.m.

This is not the first time Clarke has violated campaign rules.

Almost immediately after the announcement of his candidacy on February 15, he received a one-day campaigning ban for publishing his website ahead of the campaign period. He served out that penalty between February 25 at 12:01 a.m. and February 26 at 12:01 a.m.
