Season two of the television show UnREAL is filming today until 6 p.m. in the wide open space on the bottom floor of the new student union building, near the micro unit.
There are rainbow flags and protest signs around with slogans like, “Does your life mean nothing?” and posters covering one side of the micro unit advertising events like “RAVE PARTY SATURDAY.”
Signs dotted around the set describe the many benefits of allowing shows to film at UBC, like the fact that it “fosters positive global citizenship” — as if students being able to brag about it on Twitter isn't justification enough.
There are also signs that say something to the effect of, “If you walk around the set, you agree to be an extra.” So avoid that area if you feel like you're not ready for your big break.
IMDB describes UnREAL as “A behind-the-scenes look at the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition program.” A man with an earpiece on set didn't pull any punches about where it gets its inspiration: “It's a show within a show. You know The Bachelor? It's like a show about The Bachelor.”
Nice.
