The App Store is a wonderful but bizarre place. Usually when I go into the app itself, I get too overwhelmed by all of the various icons and punny names that I give up and just Google what I need. However, among the millions of apps streaming through the App Store, there are a few great ones. From helping you grocery shop, to making reservations and finding new recipes, the list below is a collection of some of my favourite food apps:
Foodgawker
This app will let you scroll through the most delicious looking foods from baked goods, to pizza, to cinnamon buns. It’s kind of like Pinterest because you can find recipes by clicking on the photo, but it’s exclusive to food.
Kitchen Stories
This how-to cookbook on your phone has photos and videos that will make life in the kitchen much easier. Plus, they have wine pairings for every. single. recipe... which makes this app a solid 10/10.
Open Table
Are you a big Vancouver foodie? This app is for reservations at most restaurants not only in Vancouver, but also around the world. They have menus, directions and pricing available for the restaurants that use this booking service. Collect points and redeem gift cards to save money while eating out.
PC Plus
If you shop at Loblaws, this app is basically a necessity. The point system here is unbelievably good and you can save a ton of money on groceries. Even if you don’t shop here, I would honestly start because the deals are pretty great for a non-bulk shop.
Domino's
For the late-night studying or drunken eats when you just can’t work up talking to someone on the phone. They also have a points system when using their app that ends with a free pizza. Plus, you can track your pie from the oven to your doorstep.
The Great Coffee App
Always wanted to learn how to make your own Americano or latte but don’t want to drop hundreds of dollars on an espresso machine? Understandable. Download The Great Coffee App to learn alternative methods to making these drinks and become an expert in all things coffee.
Ask the Butcher
Use this app to find the best cuts of meats, great food and drink pairings, as well as to learn the tricky tips of cooking all meats properly.
Grocery King
A visual-based grocery list for all of you that always forget that one thing at the store. You can enter your own recipes and search for new ones based on your grocery list. Download this app to save yourself several trips to the store when it could easily be one.
