From the dreams of my childhood comes this year’s most awaited franchise release. The greed-filled, gripping story of President Coriolanus Snow, in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, had everyone sitting at the edge of their seats with crossed legs and watering mouths in anticipation. From Peeta lovers to Gale sympathizers, the world agreed upon only seeing the trailer that the white boy of the month would be Tom Blyth, who plays the young (hot) President Snow.
Other than Lucky Flickerman — played by Jason Schwartzman — being an absolute comedic genius, Coriolanus Snow was the highlight of the movie. He certainly made up for Lucy Gray’s — played by Rachel Zegler — country accent and incessant singing.
Despite the singing their chemistry was palpable. There were moments where the entire audience held their breaths, as if even breathing would shatter the moment, ruining the dream that it was them Coriolanus was close to. My Draco Malfoy-obsessed internal 12-year-old self was giggling and kicking her feet throughout the movie. Yet another bleach-blonde morally-gray villain to dream about.

But the dream nearly came crashing down — Coriolanus got a buzz cut! My mouth was open, my head scrambled. Buzz cuts are not for the weak. And I despise them on most men. Gone was his perfectly curled hair. Instead, he looked even better (which I thought was impossible) with a stern look, buzzed hair and a dog tag dangling from his neck. It was almost slutty how good he looked.

Another highlight of the movie was the style. The make up, hair and fashion was stunning .Not surprising as the other Hunger Games movies also had insane drip. Tigris (a character in the movie), is a fashion icon throughout. The sight of her and Tom Blyth on screen together had me so out of breath I almost had to leave the cinema.

The movie is an entertaining one to say the least. I enjoyed my three on-screen hours with Coriolanus. Seriously considering a UBC Snow fanclub on campus. Let me know if you want to join. Personally, I will spend my December wishing for more Snow.
