A ransomware attack last month prompted TransLink to take down the U-Pass website, where students are normally able to request their U-Pass.
Despite the website being non-functional, students will still be able to access their U-Pass.
Students who used their U-Pass in December will automatically have access to their U-Pass in January, TransLink wrote on the U-Pass website. TransLink has manually loaded the U-Pass onto all of those students’ compass cards.
Students who did not use their U-Pass in December, but are hoping to have access to their U-Pass this month, should call TransLink at 604.398.2042.
The timeline for the U-Pass website to be up and running again is unclear. Senior Issues Management Advisor Jill Drews said on Wednesday that there was no update on timing.
Dan Mountain, a media representative for TransLink, said in December that shutting down the U-Pass website was a “preventative action.”
“The U-Pass BC website is down for the time being because we took steps to proactively shut-down key IT assets and systems to mitigate the effects of the ransomware attack on some of our IT infrastructure,” Mountain said.
