November is here and you don’t want to overdo yourself and burn out by the time Christmas actually comes around. (Maybe change this first sentence to something like: With the last few days of November still on the Calendar, you don't want to overdo it on the holiday tunes, eggnog and festive decorating, and burn out by the time Christmas comes around.) Here’s a list of ways to slowly sell your soul to Mariah Carey and peppermint tea without turning into a Grinch before you even make it to December 25.
1. Start with Starbucks!
Bring in the holiday cheer with warm seasonal drinks in those cute festive cups (which, let’s be honest, is 90 per cent of why you want to get them in the first place) and yummy treats from Starbucks. I personally recommend the brownie peppermint cake pops – they’re overpriced, but will make you feel like a toddler all over again because that’s what the holidays are all about.
2. Stock up on Christmas cards early
Tell your friends and family that you’re doing it ironically, when deep inside you’re just satisfying your festive needs. (Okay so I'm not sure what this point is meant to mean.... like buy them early and send them early?)
3. Put up those first-year fairy lights
What better way to get into the festive spirit. Play some Pentatonix, snuggle up in a blanket with some hot cocoa and ruminate over your dying dreams (what dying dreams?). At least you’ll do Christmas right, and that’s what truly matters. (also not sure what this last sentence means?)
4. Complete Buzzfeed's holiday quizzes
Keep an eye out for when these show up and find out which of Santa's buddies you are or which type of holiday stocking best represents your soul.
4. Organize a secret Santa with your pals
Which member of your friend group is going to be disappointed with your last-minute present choice this year?
5. Don your ugly sweaters and deck the residence halls
Decorate with some bad puns (decorate with puns? explain...) reindeers and of course, some of those (poisonous) boughs of holly.
6. Start your Christmas countdown
We’re inching nearer and nearer to the day of all days, and I hope you don’t oversleep and miss it. (maybe write about how to do a Christmas countdown? Advent calendars, or make your own?)
7. Have a movie marathon!
Mean Girls, Elf, The Polar Express – they’re all waiting to be watched and rewatched. Pull up your socks, grab some gingerbread and press play.
PSA: You probably have exams right about now though, so go easy to start.
