UBC is home to many animals — squirrels, raccoons, birds, snakes and even a coyote — but horses are not exactly one of them. However, once in a blue moon they do make cameos on campus. For example, two tiny horses made extremely newsworthy appearances outside of the Nest in 2016, and every March the UBC Equestrian Club hosts a “Horses on Campus” event where, you guessed it, horses come to campus.
This year’s instalment of that event is happening this Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. outside the Nest on the Knoll.
The purpose of the event is to raise funds and awareness for the Equestrian Club. According to the page, “activities will involve horses, carrots, polaroids and also a raffle for a free riding lesson!” If by “carrots” they mean you can feed a horse a carrot, then waste no time in getting there — it’ll be one of the most wholesome things you’ll do all year.
If you’re too swamped in schoolwork to stop by, you can at least marvel at the horses beauty when walking by the Nest on your way to get lunch. There’s nothing like losing yourself gazing at a beautiful horse to help you momentarily forget about midterms, essays, post-graduation anxieties or anything else weighing on your mind.
