Get off that class waitlist with Slacknotes’ Eyeout

Trying to get into a course that’s full? UBC Slacknotes might be able to help you.

The classroom-chatroom website has a useful feature called Eyeout, which sends you an email or text message when a space opens in a class that was previously full. All you have to do is provide the course number, your email or phone number, and that’s it! When a space opens up, you’ll get a notification telling you about it so you can register before anyone else can snatch it.

This isn’t exactly a new concept — myUBCcourseisfull has been in this business for a while now. So what’s so different about Eyeout?

For one, it’s free, whereas myUBCcourseisfull makes you pay $5. Eyeout also has a chatroom feature where students can anonymously submit messages requesting others to “PLZ DROP” certain courses.

Some memorable posts so far include:

  • NEED CHEM 121 SOMEONE HAVE MERCY DROP THE COURSE PLZZZZ
  • PLEASE DROP BIO 204 ILL PAY ILL DO ANYTHING
  • hi
  • as if university isn't already enough of a rat race now we have to do ***** like this to register for classes. got a notification and tried to register 20 seconds later and someone already snatched it smh.
  • f

However, myUBCcourseisfull brags that its “faster than ever” system “checks your courses every three minutes instead of 10,” while Eyeout doesn’t list its speed. At the end of the day, weigh your options and pick which service is right for you.
