PSA: Federal vaccine card now required for interprovincial travel

It’s time to get another vaccine card, everyone!

You heard that right. Starting October 30, people travelling around Canada by air, rail or cruise ship — BC Ferries excluded — will need to display their Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination.

This new vaccine card was announced by the federal government on October 21.

The BC Vaccine Card — which has been in use since September — will still be used within the province.

In an associated press release, the BC Ministry of Health noted that people will be able to use their BC Vaccine Card for national travel until November 30 while the federal proof of vaccination is implemented.

Students can access their federal vaccine card the same way they accessed their BC Vaccine Card: by entering their personal health number on the Health Gateway website; by phone at either 1.833.838.2323 or 1.604.681.4261; or by visiting a BC Services office.

It is unclear whether the new Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination will accept vaccines that haven’t been approved by Health Canada.
