The best places on campus to build a large, wooden structure

No matter if it’s intended to be a hewn-cedar gathering place, a source of shade, or an abstract representation of a boat, there’s no public installation quite like a large, wooden structure. Every day, thousands of students pass by large, wooden structures on their way to class and take in the allure of each one. Join me, The Ubyssey’s expert on ligneous installations, as I take you on a trip of the best places on campus to build one.

Somewhere near Main Mall

Starting off with a classic. In terms of sheer foot traffic, somewhere near main mall is an ideal place to build a large, wooden structure.

Out by Totem Field Studios

If you’ve ever taken a Linguistics class, you know the agony of walking from, say, Buchanan, to a professor’s office located so far south on West Mall it might as well be in Delta. If seclusion is more what you’re after in a location for your large, wooden structure, consider building it in this neighbourhood of campus.

By ICISC (as long as the large, wooden structure will be in the shape of that 3D polyhedron thing over the front entrance)

Yeah, not much else to say, really.

In the middle of the Wesbrook/University Blvd. intersection

Let’s face it, the current construction on and around this intersection has turned it into a chaos zone. There’s no way building a large, wooden structure right in the middle of it all would make it any worse. In other words, the construction here is so bad that the additional inconvenience of a large, wooden structure’s installment would be negligible.

If there’s anywhere on campus that can become the new home of a large, wooden structure, it will most likely be one of these four places.
