The AMS Great Debate is being held on Thursday, March 1 in the lower atrium of the Nest where every candidate from every race will be in attendance to answer all of your burning questions.
It’s a five-hour event, which is a doozy in itself, but even more so when you’re listening to student politicians heatedley debate with one another. So we won’t blame you if you decide to get a little drunk.
Take a shot when:
- A newbie calls out an incumbent for not getting something done
- A candidate audibly laughs at Andy Lin
- A candidate has no idea what a major AMS initiative is
- 10 seconds of silence
- A candidate avoids a question by talking about their student experience
Take a sip when:
- Andy Lin references the Bible or gospel issue
- A Senate candidate mentions the fall reading break
- Someone says “student experience”
- Someone pronounces ‘Ubyssey’ wrong (it’s like “odyssey,” fuckers)
- One candidate passive-aggressively says “if you’ll refer back to my platform…”
Finish your drink when:
- A candidate doesn’t show up
- More than half the audience is on their phones
- The moderator plugs The Ubyssey
- Someone brings up IFC endorsements
- You finally decide who you’re going to vote for
Voting takes place from Monday, March 5 to Friday, March 9. Vote here for who you think will be the best person to represent UBC!
