UBC's A Club of Ice and Fire (the Game of Thrones club) is hosting its own debate for this year's AMS Elections candidates, though they're going out it in a manner that differs slightly from the norm.
Candidates will face off against one another in an all-out battle with nerf guns and pillows. The contest will take place outside of the SUB (or in the Council Chambers if it rains), and the victor of each fight will earn A Club of Ice and Fire's endorsement.
We did a straw poll in our office to see who we think will come out on top for each battle. Here are our projections:
3:30 p.m. -- "Bash of Governors"
Tanner Bokor vs. Veronica Knott vs. Julie Van de Valk
With her engineering expertise, Knott will likely transform her Nerf gun from a 20 feet-per-second toy into a veritable Nerf bazooka.
3:45 p.m. -- "VP External duel"
Jude Crasta vs. Janzen Lee
We don't know enough about Lee to assess him as a combatant as he didn't answer our candidate questions, so we're going to give this one to Crasta.
5:00 p.m. -- "Battle of the Century (presidential duel)"
Aaron Bailey vs. Cheneil Antony-Hale vs. V
Though we're expecting some serious intensity in this match-up, we're going to have to give this one to V. We've all seen the movie. If he can stand up to real bullets it's going to take more than a few styrofoam pellets to take him down.
5:15 p.m. -- "Senate, Brutus style"
Viet Vu vs. Gurvir Sangha vs. Eric Zhao vs. Marjan Ht vs. Jenna Omassi vs. Margareta Dovgal vs. Ian Sapollnik
We're hedging our bets on Sangha for this race, though none of us can explain why. We just have a feeling that he's an expert pillow fighter.
5:30 p.m. -- "VP Administration truel"
Ava Nasiri vs. Alex Remtulla vs. James Jing
Remtulla is involved in Rec and seems like the kind of guy who might sleep with a Nerf gun under his pillow (with which he's equally skilled). That said, Jing seems like he's more than half way to being James Bond and Nasiri isn't one to back down from a fight. This is going to be one to watch.
