The Ubyssey poetry competition is back after an immensely successful inaugural run.
The range of styles, ideas and talent that we saw with the July competition was truly impressive. The works distinguished themselves and did not hesitate to explore some deep, dark places as well as light, amusing ones.
Beyond a limit of 30 lines, we have put no other restrictions on your poems. Submit your most wild experiments or traditional sonnets. We will read all of them and keep open minds. Be as creative and fearless as you can be!
The rules:
You may submit one poem no more than 30 lines in length. Or if the poem involves images, one printed 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper. We do not care which font you use as long as it's not Comic Sans.
Submissions close on August 22 at midnight.
The winners will be announced on August 29.
There will be one grand prize winner and six runner-ups.
The grand prize winner will have their poem published in The Ubyssey along with an interview.
All winners will have the opportunity to read their work at a poetry night in the Ubyssey office, which we are hoping to organize for the first week of the semester.
Prizes will be awarded when we know what they are.
You must be a student to enter.
How to submit:
Submit your work as a PDF file to culture@ubyssey.ca with the subject heading "August Poetry Competition."
You will be contacted via email if you have won.
Terms and conditions:
