Louis CK to play Doug Mitchell this December

The biggest name in stand-up is coming to UBC. Louis CK will play two shows on December 7 and 8 — both at 8 p.m. at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre.

He sent the following in a letter to his fans this morning:

“Hello, my dear friend. My dear, dear friend. This is Louis CK.  I'm writing to you because I am continuing my live standup tour and today I am adding many cities and dates. So I thought you should know about them in case you want to come and see me live….As always, I'm keeping the price of my tickets down to an average of 50 dollars, including all charges. I know that's not nothing. But it's less than more than that.”

The comedy juggernaut had relatively humble beginnings, doing gigs at open mics in the 1980s before gradually achieving success, eventually booking paid gigs and opening for Jerry Seinfeld.

He continued moving up the ladder, writing for the likes of David Letterman, Conan O'Brien and Chris Rock in the 1990s and early 2000s as his stand-up career took off. His first half-hour special was released in 1996 by HBO — he'd go on to release seven more while taking other gigs in TV and movies, eventually reaching the level of stardom where he's able to perform at Doug Mitchell.

Tickets are on sale now. They can be purchased at louisck.net.
