UBC libraries making changes to meet COVID-19 needs

As with everything else at UBC, on-campus libraries are making changes to their hours and lending services to adapt to COVID-19 concerns.

According to a statement released on March 16, all library locations will be shifting their hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

While the majority of the building including the heritage core of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will remain open 6 a.m. to 1 a.m., the Chapman Learning Commons Help Desk is changing their hours to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Rare Books & Special Collections is closed March 16 and March 17, with staff working remotely.

Equipment rentals are also closed and all events that were to be hosted by the library are now cancelled.

The library is also urging students not to come to campus to return or renew library materials. All late fees from March 16 onward are cancelled “until the situation changes.” This doesn’t work retroactively though, so if you have outstanding fees you still have to pay those.

This story will be updated as the situation changes and more information is gathered. For more UBC information on COVID-19 please consult the BCCDC website or https://www.ubyssey.ca/covid-19/.
