In Saturday’s match up, the T-Birds came out with a 6-4 victory over the Bisons, a strong start to their Canada West season. They would have hoped to carry that momentum over to Sunday's matinee, but did not succeed.

On Friday night, the men’s basketball team opened their season in emphatic fashion — claiming a 99-92 victory in exhibition play against the Bishop's Gaiters in the UBC Invitational.
Held on September 30 and October 1 this year, Jericho Beach was bustling with students, staff and faculty stroking to success.
“That’s a really great hockey team and we got to come out ready to play," UBC head coach Graham Thomas said.
“It’s in our hands, we go from beating a team two days ago 5-0 and then we do this -- we got to figure it out,” Thunderbirds captain Karn Phagura said.
Recapping the match, head coach Jesse Symons commented, “Defensively, [Victoria] do well and they look to attack quickly in transition and were able to get one back today. Overall, I’m pleased with where we’re at as a team.”
I appreciate the desire to implement an exciting new jersey. As a long-time fan, I was titillated.
The versatility and athleticism of this UBC squad will provide the coaching staff greater flexibility. Littered with players who can both shoot and guard multiple positions, the ‘Birds roster has national title aspirations written all over it.
The athletics department gets its money from sponsorships, alumni donations and directly from UBC. The money they receive from the university comes in a lump sum — Athletics is free to determine how to spend it.
Shumbusho has his sights set on professional soccer as a future career. Beyond UBC, the Whitecaps residency program prospect intends to continue training and playing soccer for the Whitecaps.
After the game concluded, the ’Birds were presented with the Captains Cup by members of the Vancouver Giants organization.
“I find it is a really good way to channel all my stress out of school and out of work,” Jackart said. “So it’s just really fun to come do meets and train with like-minded people.”
“I think as a team we have a lot of quality up front when we go at teams we go at 100 per cent,” said head coach Jesse Symons of the T-Birds attack. “When we have speed going at teams I think it’s difficult to defend.”
The 'Birds northern road trip started off unexpectedly on Friday, as the team lost 1-0 to the Timberwolves.
“We had the tools to win,” said UBC head coach Blake Nill after the game. “Yes, [the Dinos] are more veteran than us, but that doesn’t matter. We need to be able to compete with those guys.”
