Coming off of a three-game winning streak to start the preseason, the UBC men’s hockey team split a doubleheader against the Ryerson Rams to end its streak at four. The T-Birds won the first game by a score of 4-1 and saw goals from Kyle Becker, Joh
It’s something that most people with older siblings can relate to. For third-year T-Birds receiver Marcus Davis, his brother Terrell Davis has been a big source of inspiration throughout his years playing football.
The event is in its third year and in its second in the month of September, an approach that has proven to attract a larger crowd as opposed to the original date that was set in April. Last year’s event attracted just about 100 people and skaters,
With the loss at homecoming, the UBC football team now holds a 1-2 season record and is second-to-last in Canada West conference. Only five regular season games remain for the T-Birds and for head coach Blake Nill — it’s not a lot of time.
Hayashi believes the event was an excellent way to promote combat sports to students. “Many students don’t get to watch it or know about it,” said Hayashi. “This is a way to get the word out that we have combat clubs at UBC.”
The Thunderbirds came into the weekend with an undefeated conference record (4-0-2) and one point below table leaders— the Trinity Western University Spartans. The team’s scoreless ties against University of Alberta Golden Bears and University of Sas
“It’s nice to see the guys go out there and perform in a game situation,” said head coach Sven Butenschon. “They’ve worked so hard in practice [and] they’ve really impressed me in the short time I’ve been here. It’s nice to see them get rewarded.”
Currently holding the title of National Champions, UBC’s Women’s Field Hockey team are set for yet another competitive season. And despite finishing at second place in the Canada West division, the 2015-16 season was a year to remember and now the te

“I came to UBC because I want to play in front of big crowds,” said Blake Nill, UBC head coach. “I appreciate all the work that the Athletic Department and people did and I feel like I let them down today.”
Everyone in the room wore tense, unsmiling expressions on their faces— except for Kisil. The 20-year-old danced a little jig in front of the cameras and his relaxed attitude seemed out of place at such an elite level of swimming.
For the second straight season, the ’Birds will square off against the Regina Rams to prove that they are a force to be reckoned with. Last year’s Homecoming was a close contest that ended with UBC coming out on top 27-20.
"Last year bicycle beach crawl was one of my favorite events of first year, because it introduced me to the UBC community as a whole, showed me the cycling side of Vancouver and also connected me to other organizations on campus like UBC Bike Rave."
After an intense derby filled with many hits and scrums, the UBC men’s hockey came out on top 3-1 against its cross-town rival the Simon Fraser University Clan (SFU). The 3-1 victory was Sven Butenschon’s first win as the T-Birds' interim head coach.
