This morning, distinguished guests and members of the UBC community gathered at the Chan Centre for the official installation of Dr. Santa J. Ono as the 15th president and vice-chancellor of UBC. Ono stated his term four months ago, in August.

It was officially announced today that Santa Ono, the newest president and vice-chancellor of UBC who began his term on August 15, has appointed new people to three positions within the President’s Office.
Several pro-life activists have set up posters and cones at the plaza outside of the Nest since 8 a.m. as part of their “abortion awareness project.” Since then, pro-choice supporters have set up in the same area.
Santa Ono will be installed as the 15th president of UBC on November 22. His official installation comes just over four months after Ono was tapped to be the university’s next president, and will feature a panel of talks and a concert.
“[I wanted to create an] alternative discourse space for students and scholars to engage in critical discussions about the development of Western capitalism, and the contemporary social and economic issues facing us,” said Gibadullina.
UBC’s Arts Undergraduate Society (AUS) represents 12,500 students. This means that they collect $13 from all of those people — which equates to $162,500. This article will provide a basic breakdown of the major allotments for fees.
“We definitely recognize that this is a really big issue in terms of spending, so we were able to cover it through our surplus, but mainly it came out of the student life portfolio,” said Marina Tischenko, AUS VP Finance.
“We therefore request that the University of British Columbia establish an independent investigation into how this matter has been handled by the creative writing program, the dean of the faculty of arts and the senior administration at UBC.”
UBC’s Senate is working on a policy to mandate a syllabi for each credit-bearing undergraduate course, and to also create some guidelines and regulations for what should be included within a course syllabus.
