As requested by Mayor Gregor Robertson, the city of Vancouver is showing solidarity in the form of flying the rainbow flag outside City Hall in response to the event, according to a tweet from the mayor’s office earlier today.
Pride members noticed that the flag was missing this morning and contacted UBC Equity and Inclusion office to ask if they knew about the disappearance. Upon investigation, the office found remnants of the scorched flag still attached to the pole.
UBC faculty members have signed a petition asking that the Faculty Association "bring a motion to its membership expressing no confidence in the UBC Board of Governors." The last month has highlighted a number of concerns for the FA and others.
“Replacing the student information system is one of the largest system replacements at the university because it is so core to everything that the institution is involved with,” said Jennifer Burns, UBC's chief information officer.

The option to enter the comp sci major directly from high school has been removed. Students wishing to enter the program must now complete a general first year in the Faculty of Science before applying to major in computer science.
Ron Gordesky, the student services manager, approached a student-run development company at UVic to provide software for Safewalk. While the new program has allowed Safewalk to keep up demand, the larger issue of consistently rising usage remains.
While the “divestment criteria” from the Finance Committee's report asserted that there was a proven rationale to the decision, it also said that divestment was not an effective way to achieve the desired outcome.
The protest was organized by a grassroots group of faculty "who have had enough of the kind of bad governance that goes on at this university," said Mark Mac Lean, president of the faculty association and also the first to speak to the crowd.
The protesters have three main demands: a greater emphasis on transparency and openness at the Board of Governors level, a proper documentation process of all meetings and sub-committees, and an independent external review of Board practices.
When asked whether he attended yesterday’s meeting, board member David Sidoo responded, “Yes, I was. I was at the phone, on the conference call. Most of us were.” Other board members could not be reached for comment.
The committee consulted with over 125 stakeholders, ranging from internal groups, AMS and GSS members, the Faculty Association and external groups such as municipal and provincial governments, First Nations and presidents of various organizations.
The Arts Student Centre “can hold together 12,000 Arts students across a multitude of departments and it really will be something that will solidify our Arts identity,” said Tomo Yamaguchi, AUS VP administration.
In an effort to encourage a more diverse range of students to apply, the senate has approved the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s proposal to remove mandatory science pre-requisites for the M.D. program, although they will still be strongly recommended.
