The UBC Social Justice Centre is organizing a similar protest outside of the US consulate in Vancouver to take place on February 11. Sharma hopes that Saturday’s protest will help spark even further action among Canadian students.

“If [UBC] is going to be comparing themselves to other schools for this concept of excellence, then the fitness space they provide to students should also be held up to those quality standards,” said AMS President Ava Nasiri.

A team of four Science Undergraduate Society (SUS) executives placed second in a case competition organized by the society. In a public Facebook post, Nguyen thanked SUS VP Academic Sarah Park, one of the primary organizers of the event.

The decision came after Emma Pullman, a campaign strategist at SumOfUs — a group that aims to stop “big corporations from behaving badly” — tweeted UBC Thursday morning. The school took the ad down less than 4o minutes later.

The AMS has changed its club management software to Clubhouse after the end of its contract with the previous software, Orgsync. The new software will be more user-friendly and intuitive, according to Chris Scott, AMS VP Administration.

Vancouver mayor Gregor Robertson announced the city’s plan for an extension of the Millennium Line at a press conference yesterday. The extension will begin at VCC-Clark Station and will run along Broadway, stopping short of UBC at Arbutus Street.
