UBC’s Board of Governors has been intensely scrutinized the last few months, facing accusations of lacking in transparency, in accountability and in oversight. These problems have led to calls for an external review of the board.

Ross Horton appears to have left under good terms. In an email to staff, Bailey said he “would like to personally thank Ross for his hard work, dedication and commitment to supporting the students of UBC and the student leadership of the AMS.”

In a result that surprised absolutely nobody, Louis Retief has been elected as next year’s AMS VP Finance. Although he was the sole candidate running for the position, he was nonetheless very excited about his victory.

Kathleen Simpson won the position of VP External amid cheers and frenzied shouting. “I’m just so overwhelmed, I’m just grateful that my team is so awesome,” said Simpson. Throughout her campaign, Simpson emphasized her focus on long-term goals.

Opponent Alan Ehrenholz had occupied a diversity of positions, that many saw as a solid foundation for engagement. However, it appears that Scott's experience with the VP Admin portfolio and his strong debate performances won the day.

Samantha So beat Hussam Zbeeb and Andrew Liang to the post of AMS Academic and University Affairs. "I'm so psyched," said So. "I'm really eager to carry out the things that I planned out and learned during my election."

Her win came as something of a surprise to her — she told The Ubyssey that she hadn't been expecting it. “I had no idea. Jenna is so phenomenal and amazing and talented and hard-working that I had absolutely no idea, it was hard to judge,” she said.

Simpson noted that she will continue to be passionate about the projects that she has been lobbying. Kilpatrick said he is running because he’s seen his new model for advocacy prove to be effective and hopes to bring that change to the AMS.

Sole VP Finance candidate Louis Retief sat down at this year’s Great Debate to discuss topics such as AMS businesses, fee restructuring and the current fee referendum. The first question asked what makes him different from previous VP Finances.

The debate tonight involved more challenging questions for incumbent Veronica Knott, Aaron Bailey and Reda El Maazi. The most politically interesting part of the night was when Katic pushed Knott on her record as board member in the past year.
