Clubs don’t simply ask students for their money in the name of charity — they’ll sell things, organize gigantic parties, put themselves through challenges or even chop off their hair in their efforts to tackle worldwide issues.

Taking place over the course of July 1 and 2, the annual Canada Day celebrations at Canada Place will include a parade through downtown Vancouver, a pancake breakfast, and a ceremony celebrating the recently-granted citizenships of 150 new Canadians.

“Dragon boat is an easy sport to pick up but a difficult sport to master. Anyone can pick up a paddle and paddle in a boat and make a boat move. But to actually make a boat move fast as a team, you really have to be loyal to your team.”

From small class sizes in major requirements to non-restricted seats in required classes going to students taking them as electives, course registration is rarely a picnic for students on a tight graduation deadline.

When scientists are asked to justify research based solely on the outcome, grad student Chantal Mustoe wonders, “Since when did the value of fundamental knowledge disappear? Why must I promise a grand discovery ... before I can pay my rent?”
