Third-year economics and math student Alberto Cevallos and a group of primarily arts students found themselves facing a challenge last winter; they had ideas about innovative ways to harness emerging technologies but lacked some of the technical expertise and support they needed to develop them.
The reception to the club has been very positive so far, with many of the group members attesting to the amount of excitement that new recruits show when they discover the club.

This September the AMS launched Empower Me, a dial-in counselling service that aims to provide timely support for a wide variety of health issues on-demand, 24/7 and 365 days a year. This service is available free of charge to students who are members of the AMS/GSS Student Health and Dental Plan.
Students living in Walter Gage tower are complaining about an ongoing landscaping project at the base of the tower — especially the smell.

Movember is an international annual campaign that focuses on supporting and raising awareness for mens' health.
If you scope around UBC’s Earth Science Building, you can find a plaque that acknowledges those who have donated large amounts of funds to UBC Science over the years. And in the section listing those who donated between $25,000 and $99,999 dollars, there’s a particularly interesting name on there.
According to the Focus on People’s Report brought to the UBCBoard of Governors this past summer, UBC recruits women and minorities at rates on par with the levels at which they are represented in the Canadian population. But examining statistics of those representations, there are discrepancies at the higher levels of UBC administration.
“I am on-call today, and I have learned that it never hurts to have that extra dash of caffeine before the start of a 24-hour shift. Of course, I have been on-call enough times to know that there is no such thing as a ‘typical’ shift.”
“Just the legacy that [Huband] has built here. It’s incredible what she has done. I’ve always wanted to be part of something like that,” said Filewich. “I’m hoping to help her bring home another national championship in my five years here.”
